Victorian powerhouse Rowville Secondary College has put the final nail ina thrilling opening day of the Australian Basketball Schools Championships.

On a day of high drama and unrelenting action, Rowville made sure to cap the night with a Hollywood finish.

In the thriller between Rowville and The Southport School a frantic last three minutes ended with several big buckets to the Victorians as they ran away with it, 90-79.

The Rowville team had huge support in the crowd, roaring and screaming for every bucket late in the game.

The Rowville team features Joel Foxwell, brother of South East Melbourne Phoenix development player Owen.

Owen’s Phoenix are led by a mammoth in the middle in former NBA big man Allan ‘Big Sauce’ Williams. Joel’s teamed up with his own ‘Big Sauce’ in Jacob Bell, who had a huge 24 points, 16 rebounds and two steals.

The giant red head put the game to bed with a putback and-one late, ensuring an 11-point win, 90-79. Foxwell had 18 of his own with eight boards, six dimes and five steals.

Jaylen Pitman was a bucket for Southport with 28 points.

It capped a strong day for the Victorian school who proved they will be a finals force with two wins from two starts.

In the Championship women’s division Templestowe Grammar finished the day undefeated alongside the exciting Lake Ginninderra College.
