South Australian big man Deng Manyang has hoisted Trinity College to the School Sport SA Year 11-12 Division 1 title in a thrilling grand final.

Manyang was a monster inside the paint, setting the tone for an impressive Trinity College line-up in a low-scoring final against rivals SEDA College.

It took several huge stops in the final quarter, and a couple of keyt defensive rebounds, for the Trinity side to survive 40-36 in the final.

The win means the side will head to the Basketball Australia Schools Championships in December to represent their state in the Championship division.

The Tenison Woods Titans picked a third-place finish in the boys tournament with a 54-48 win over Nazareth Catholic College.

GIRLS GRAND FINAL

Rising South Australian basketball star Keira Gardner has helped inspire Scotch College to its first ever Year 11-12 Division 1 girls title.

Scotch overcame the odds to knock off perrenial heavyweights Immanuel College and reigning champions St Michael’s College in successive games to hoist the trophy.

The heavy pressure on the defensive end proved crucial for Scotch College as they held off a stacked St Michael’s College line-up before pulling away late inthe fourth quarter to register a 58-47 win in the final.

Tenison Woods Titans capped off a great run through the state competition taking out third place with a three-point win over Immanuel College in the play-off game.

BOYS SEMI-FINAL RESULTS

Trinity College has stromed its way into the boys grand final at thre School Sport SA Year 11/12 Division 1 finals.

Off the back of a stirring performance froim big man Deng Manyang, the Trinity side proved too powerful for semi-final rivals Nazareth, running out 44-31 winners.

Manyang owned the paint with his towering size and strength on the glass proving hard to overcome, while Michael Herjok and Much Kuol played the point with precision.

Trinity College wil meet an impressive SEDA College in the boys grand final.

South Australian representative Rio Bruton dominated the opening half for the SEDA Lightning, before he sat out the final quarter with the side’s second team going to work to protect a big semi-final lead against Tenison Woods College Titans.

While the Titans fought back valiantly in the final quarter, the lead the Lightning had amassed proved too tall of a mountain to climb as they ran out 75-42 winners.

GIRLS SEMI-FINALS RESUTLS

Scotch College has sent a shockwave through the School Sport SA Year 11-12 Division 1 basketball finals, knocking off competition heavyweights Immanuel College.

The Scotch College girls, led by South Australian representative teenager Keira Gardner, will now head to the girls grand final against St Michael’s College.

Scotch College held on ina nailbiting final five minutes, with two clutch free throws in the dying seconds cementing a 54-50 semi-final win.

Defending champions St Michael’s College had to fight their way from behind in the other semi-final to beat Tenison Woods College 49-43.

The boys semi-finals will now take over the courts before the grand finals this afternoon.

Immanuel College has a chance to reclaim its mantle as the number one girls basketball school in South Australia.

The former School Sport SA champions will head into Wednesday’s Year 11-12 Division 1 finals series full of confidence, despite the presence of reigning champions St Michael’s College on the other half of the finals draw.

The schools will be part of a thrilling Year 11-12 Division 1 finals day, which includes semi-finals and grand finals across both girls and boys divisions.

Every match across two courts at The ARC in Campbelltown will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV and the Advertiser website.

Immanuel College have been a dominant force on the basketball courts, winning the Independent Girls Schools Sport Association crown for the past 10-straight years while they have won the School Sport SA Division 1 title four out of the last five years before St Michael’s triumph in 2023.

St Michael’s, who knocked off Henley High School in last year’s Division 1 girls final, will take on former champions Tenison Woods College in Wednesday’s semi-finals.

The race for the boys Division 1 title has been blown wide open with reigning champions Glenunga International College failing to make the semi-finals stage.

Glenunga was beaten out by former three-time champions Trinity College, who will take some beating for the title.

Tenison Woods College has a chance to claim the School Sport SA double entering the boys semi-finals against 2022 Division 2 champions SEDA College.
