A thrilling one-point win in the dying seconds has headlined a huge third day of under-18 hoops action at the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup.

In one of the tournament’s best games, it was the SA Magpies boys who broke Tasmania Tigers’ hearts in a 56-55 classic.

KommunityTV exclusively live streamed 12 matches across two courts on Thursday at the ACJBC in Albury-Wodonga.

SA took a one-point lead into the final quarter but found themselves behind with 18 seconds remaining. Then up stepped Lachlan Keynes.

The Magpies big man forced a steal after a Tassie inbound and got the ball back, driving to the basket to score and seal victory.

And it wasn’t the only big performance from the SA under-18 boys on day three.

The SA Sharks secured their first win of the tournament, defeating ACT by 27 points.

After suffering three losses, the Sharks were led strongly by Kale Matthews-Hampton with his 22 points proving to be crucial in the win.

In Thursday’s opening game, it was the Victoria Goldminers who kept their undefeated run intact with a strong 69-38 victory over NSW Waratahs.

Victoria Bushrangers then ensured they would enter finals with an undefeated record thanks to a 66-34 win over NZ Weka.

In their biggest win of the tournament thus far, it was Phillip Wickham (17 points) and Dashiell Smith (16 points) that led the charge.

In under-18 girls action, hosts Albury-Wodonga opened the day’s proceedings with a 22-point victory over Tasmania Devils.

That was largely in part to a monster 36-point showing from Molly Moylan, who was the only player in her side to score above 10 in the 71-49 win.

Victoria Bushrangers then defeated NSW Kookaburras by 14 points, thanks to two strong quarters on the defensive end.

Limiting the Kookaburras to just six second-quarter points and eight fourth-quarter points, it was the Bushrangers second win.

In a cross-pool clash, the Tasmania Tigers secured bragging rights over SA Magpies in a tight battle.

The four-point win came off the back of a 12-point game from Portia Chopping and a strong defensive showing in the final quarter.

In one of the tournament’s biggest victories, the NSW Waratahs’ smashed the ACT by 63 points.

A 27-point first quarter kick started proceedings with five players scoring double-digits in an even and impressive showing.

PREVIEW

One last swing at reaching the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup finals remains with the action set to go up a notch in Albury-Wodonga on Thursday.

While some have already secured their spots in Friday’s playoff rounds, other teams will be needing to secure victories in the two final minor rounds on day three.

KommunityTV will exclusively live stream action from two courts all week as more than 600 junior basketballers compete at the titles from January 14-18.

Thursday’s broadcast will feature 12 games from the Under-18 boys and girls divisions, tipping off from 8.30am AEST.

High-flying Victoria Goldminers will take on NSW Waratahs in the opening boys match of the day with both sides coming off strong outings on Wednesday.

An 18-point game from Riley Dilges inspired the Goldminers to a 59-52 victory over SA Sharks, while the Waratahs also took care of the Sharks and Tasmania Tigers in back-to-back wins.

However the best boys action of the day could be saved until last when the competition topscorer so far – Tasmania’s Mason Ling – is in action with the Devils at 3.30pm.

On the girls court, hosts Albury Wodonga kick off proceedings against Tasmania before NSW Kookaburras face off against Victoria Bushrangers.

For the third-straight year the ACJBC tournament will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV and across News Corp Australia’s digital mastheads.

The KommunityTV coverage will feature matches from two courts across all five days of the tournament, including matches in all three age groups.
