The Willetton Tigers have kept their nerve late in their contest with Victorian outfit Frankston Blues to progress to the semi-finals of the U18 Club Basketball Championships in Perth.

Holding a slender two-point lead after calling a time-out with 22 seconds on clock, the Tigers have returned to the court to bury a massive three-pointer on their way to a 65-59 win.

Tasmania Devils took care of the Wildcats Academy in the final game of the day, running rampant to score a confidence-boosting 93-63 victory.

Earlier, the Melbourne Tigers have confirmed their favouritism for the girls’ title with a comfortable quarter-final win over fellow Victorians Keilor Thunder.

The power-packed Tigers have looked a class apart this week, winning all four of their preliminary round games by considerable margins and have now opened the knockout games in similar style.

The 75-47 success was set up by a strong first quarter that allowed them to cut loose in the second half.

In the boys quarterfinals, Diamond Valley Eagles survived a huge scare to eventually tame the East Perth Eagles. The scores were locked at 74-74 with just seconds to go before the Victorians finally asserted themselves.
