The Tigers, who had weathered an incredible early storm to fight their way back into the contest, had a chance to win the game from deep right on the buzzer but rimmed out.
It was an incredible quarter-final to close out a big day of finals action on Wednesday, with the Blues scoring 12-unanswered points to start the game before the Tigers fought their way into the lead by three-quarter time.
It was always going to be a tight finish with the sides stick on 65-65 at the end of regular time.
The hometown heroes Casey have also made it into the semi-final stage of the tournament in both the boys and the girls Championship divisions.
The Cavaliers boys, the pre-tournament favourites, proved much too strong for Hornsby Ku Ring Gai Spiders, running out 86-50 winners, while the Casey girls also made short work of South Adelaide Panthers.

It wasn’t the only tough result for the Panthers on the opening day of finals action, with their much-vaunted boys side knocked off in a quarter-final shock by the Norths Bears.
The Bears established an early lead against the Panthers, and found the key to shutting down South Adelaide scoring weapon Eddie Whitehouse.
But it was a brilliant fourth quarter where the Bears struck, outscoring their rivals 23-14 to blaze to a 90-52 win.
Kilsyth Cobras will also head to the Championship girls semi-finals after beating Manly Warringah Sea Eagles 65-42.

PREVIEW
The Victorian Country outfit tip off a massive day on Court 1 on Wednesday at 9am and will finish top of their Pool if they beat the Queensland big guns.
The Braves put themselves in a great position by silencing the vocal home crowd with one of the most dominant first halves of the tournament so far.
At one stage they led the stunned hosts 38-10 before settling for a 42-20 halftime lead. The second half became a real scrappy affair but the damage had been done
The home crowd are sure to be in full voice at 10.30am on Court 1 when their impressive boys side take on Western Australian surprise packets Perry Lakes Hawks.
With Mobarede Akingbade and Mofeoluwa Adio leading the way, Casey have been untouchable so far, but in Perry Lakes, they will face their toughest opposition yet.
Angus Sallie scored 21 points, Kelby Taurayi 19 and three others scored 11 or more in the WA side’s comfortable win over Penrith Panthers on Tuesday afternoon.
Over on Court 3, two teams who will be very familiar with each other will be looking to keep NSW girls hopes alive in the Shield.
A lack of offensive firepower has been costly for Central Coast Rebels and they face a Manly Sea Eagles side keen to bounce back after a loss late yesterday to Frankston Blues.
KommunityTV will stream 200 games LIVE and EXCLUSIVE across six courts at the U14 Club Championships at Casey in Melbourne’s south-east suburbs over six days from Sunday.
