Victoria Metro have withstood a fast-finishing South Australia Country to win a third-straight Under-16 boys gold medal.

SA Country duo Ethan Macdermott (43 pts, seven rebounds) and Kale Matthews-Hampton (32 pts, eight rebounds) did everything they could to inspire their teammates, while skipper William Wimshurst came alive in the fourth quarter to finish with a double-double.
But it was too little, too late for the Croweaters.
Victoria Metro, led by the sensational handling of Kirikiri (33 pts, nine rebounds, five assists), proved too strong over the opening three terms to open what proved to be an unassailable lead.
It was billed as the battle of SA Country’s dynamic duo against the deepest line-up in the tournament and the Victorian’s proved it.
Six players in the Victorian squad hit double digits on the scoreboard in an emphatic team performance.
In the end, turnovers killed the SA Country hopes of a maiden gold medal at the Under-16 National Championships, with Victoria Metro scoring 33 points from turnovers.

It answered 12 months of what ifs for SA Basketball, who came within a whisker of the gold medal at last year’s tournament in Perth - losing to Vic Metro in the final.
Gardiner, as she has done all week, put her side on her back in an emphatic performance.
The guard finished with 29 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in a player of the match performance.
