The Sturt Sabres women have made a statement result with a comprehensive 28-point victory against the Forestville Eagles as the reserve playoffs kicked off in the Basketball SA District League.
The Sabres were superb and simply had too much all-round strength for the Eagles. They enjoyed a 20-point lead at the half and increased the margin to 28 points at the end of the third quarter.
The Eagles did well to match their opponents in the final quarter, but the sting had long gone out of the contest.
The 95-67 was a fair reflection of the gap between the two teams.

Forestville Eagles v South Adelaide Panthers (Reserves men)
In the earlier women’s contest, the West Adelaide Bearcats defeated the North Adelaide Rockets by 10 points in an entertaining match-up.
The contest was even in the first half, but the Bearcats blew the margin out with a dominant third quarter. From there, they were always in control for a 70-60 victory.
The men’s Woodville Warriors have fallen short despite a stirring fourth-quarter fightback against the Forestville Eagles.
The Eagles set the pace for the duration of the match, but were tested late in the contest when the Warriors pressed hard.
Despite the Warriors outscoring the Eagles 25-10 in the final quarter, it was Forestville who took the spoils 84-76 in a quality contest.
In the opening men’s match between the Forestville Eagles and the South Adelaide Panthers, it was the latter who went to the main break with a four-point lead (41-45).
The margin probably should have been bigger but the Eagles made a concerted effort late in the second quarter to close in on the Panthers.
They continued that momentum after the break as they dominated the third and even pushed their lead out as far as six points.
But the Panthers would not be denied and regrouped in the last quarter to snatch back the lead for a three-point win in a thrilling, hight quality contest (86-83).
