Owen Hannaford has single-handedly shocked the AFL Coates Talent League launching a fourth-quarter demoltion of red-hot favourites Geelong in the quarter finals.

Hannaford kicked three unanswered goals to start the final term, and took the mark of the day off the back of a brilliant inside 50 from speedy rover Harley Hicks, as the Rebels overturned an 11-point deficit at the final break.

Hannaford finished the game with five goals while teammate Jonty Faull added four of his own in a brilliant display up front.

The Falcons, who enterred the Coates Talent League finals on top of the ladder, will have every right to feel hard done by after they led for most of the contest.

With Noah Tullio utilising his quickness on the ball to out-strip the Rebels defenders, the Falcons looked likely to run away with the contest midway through the third term.

The Victoria Country representative midfielder set up a couple and kicked one of his own in an impressive display.

The Falcons led in every major statistical category except for the one that matters most. Geelong had more disposals, kicks, hit-outs and marks and had made more than 12 more tackles than their rivals.

But on the scoreboard it was the Rebels in front after a blistering six-goal final term.

“It’s obviously been a really pleasing season collectively and we’ve had some really encouraging individual accolades throughout the year as well,” Geelong Falcons talent lead Jesse Drever said.

“But when you get into knockout finals, you never know what to expect. The group has spent the last two weeks preparing and had a Saturday session as well. ‘

“They've got a lot of depth and are a really quality group, so we know when they’re up and about, they are one of the more dangerous sides in the competition.

“Although we had the week off and finished top of the ladder, they are a pretty imposing team to come up against in a first final.”

Geelong Falcons captain Lachie Jaques, who earned U18 All-Australian selection at the championships, midfielder Xavier Ivisic and North Melbourne father-son prospect River Stevens, the son of Roos champion Anthony, will be among those looking to impress their draft claims.

“Lachie has had a really impressive year for us, captain of the side and has just been really consistent throughout the year,” Drever said.

now he has got his chance to lead his side into a finals campaign

“Xav Ivisic, it has been great to have him back from his Geelong Grammar commitments, obviously played Vic Country footy as well.

“River Stevens has come back from Geelong College and had some really good games.”

Athletic key forward Dan Lowther, who received a state combine invite, kicked 2.4 against the Rebels a fortnight ago.

He has been the spearhead of their forward line since goalkicker Will McLachlan was taken by Brisbane in the mid-season draft.

“It is kind of his forward line to lead and he knows now how he can impact games,” Drever said.

“He had a bit of injuries to battle at the start of the year and he has really consistently kind of had a good run since.”

The Rebels have plenty of other potential draftees in their line-up, with Vic Country representatives Vic Country talents Jonty Faull, Floyd Burmeister, Jack Ough, Ollie Hannaford and Harry Charleson all set to be watched closely by recruiters.
