PREVIEW

SA’s top young footballers will look to put their names on the map over three huge days of the SANFL U15 boys Intrastate Championships, starting on Tuesday.

The carnival will showcase the state’s up and coming suburban and country talent as they compete in representative sides for each SANFL club.

KommunityTV will be showcasing two venues each day LIVE and EXCLUSIVE, which means four games of exciting action and 12 games all up, starting with Norwood v Eagles at Coopers Stadium and Sturt v Glenelg at Thomas Farms Oval.

Games featuring players from the state’s far away regions kick off the day before the Metro players get their opportunity to shine.

There is plenty of exciting talent taking to the fields from Tuesday.

SANFL general manager of football, Matt Duldig said the championships, which will coincide with the U17 tournament and follow on from the U16 state side’s success in the AFL championships, will be the start of the talent ID process for the next generation of players.

“These carnivals are a pivotal part of our pathway in SA and have continued to serve a great purpose through the years,” Duldig said.

“We get to see some players we haven’t seen in this type of environment and each club will select their teams carefully and take the tournament very seriously.

“The results our U16 boys have produced at a national level this week have proved we have some top drawer talent here and we’re excited to now watch the next crop come through.”

Duldig said the participation of athletes from right around the state reflected the positive growth of the game at the junior level.

“There are obviously some challenges in regional areas in terms of population, but footy continues to be the number one sport and is the life of our towns and communities,” Duldig said.

“We continue to get great talent from those country areas and that’s why these carnivals are so important.

“We want to make sure every boy and girl gets the same pathway opportunity no matter where in SA they come from.”
