The Kuwarna (Adelaide Football Club) 2025 First Nations guernseys are the tops because they tell the story of Wirangu man Graham Johncock, one of the Crows’ legendary players.
Designed by Johncock and Wirangu artist Aunty Christine Tschuna, they will be worn by AFL, AFLW and SANFL players during the home Sir Doug Nicholls Round, which runs over the next two weekends.
As you would expect, crows are prominent in the design. “The big crow in the middle of the guernsey represents my biggest supporter, who was always there, and if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t have made it to the AFL – and that represents my mum,” Johncock said.
“A couple of little crows on the shoulder, one represents my dad (and) the other my grandmother Evelyn, who was always proud of me.”
There are also footprints, depicting Johncock’s journey to the club, and symbols to represent past and present Indigenous players.
Johncock, whose 227-game career spanned 2002 to 2013, was the Crows’ leading goal kicker in 2003 and became a life member in 2011.
