SAM Thaiday is set to have an extended stay in London, with the star Australian forward to undergo surgery to a fractured cheekbone on Tuesday.

The veteran Kangaroo suffered the horrific injury in Australia’s victory over England on Monday morning, following a sickening clash with opposition forward James Graham.

He has been ruled out of this weekend’s Four Nations final against the Kiwis and will have an operation to repair the damage.

His wife Rachel took to Instagram on Monday to confirm the news and shared an image illustrating the damage caused to Thaiday’s skull.

She confirmed that he would be stuck in England after the surgery due to the risks of flying with a cheekbone injury.

The length of his stay is still unknown.

Rachel said she is hoping to be able to go over to see him, with the Broncos second rower having been on tour since mid-October.

In her Instagram post, Rachel wrote a heartfelt message about her husband, who she described as “one sad guy” as he deals with the injury.

“Hopefully this is not too gory for people but this is my husbands face at the moment,” she captioned the image.

“He had an almighty head collision in the Aussie game.

“He is one sad guy right now, sad to miss playing in the GF next weekend representing his country and sad to be so far from home.

“Babe you are one tough man but this just shows you’re only super human sometimes. We are all so proud of you and love every little aspect of you even with a broken face!

“See you soon, I will be by your side every step of the way. We love and miss you so much.”

A Kangaroos spokesman confirmed the surgery would happen late Tuesday Australian time, but was unable to yet reveal just how long Thaiday would be required to stay in London for.
