Hundreds of diehard Port fans have tossed their hat in the ring to win a signed pair of Jason Horne-Francis’ footy boots, including an adorable dachshund named after the star midfielder.
Owner Frances Field adopted Jason last Christmas and said naming him after her favourite player was a no-brainer.
“I named him after Jason because he’s fast, he’s strong and he’s beautiful,” the 73-year-old support worker told The Advertiser.
Keen to get her hands on a slice of Port history, the Largs Bay local planned to gift the boots to her grandson, Elliot, 18.
“I think my daughter would fight me for them because she’s a mad Port supporter, and so is my grandson.
“Unfortunately, he’s in New South Wales. He’s a member but can’t get to any of the games, so I would like to eventually give them to him.”
While her furry friend isn’t a member yet, Ms Fields has been with the Power through thick and thin, joining the club with her friend Kaye in 1997.
“We were at the 2004 grand final, and it was the most amazing feeling. I kept telling everybody that it was better than sex and you can still feel it 20 years later,” she said.
“We went in 2007, we went to Shanghai, we drove to Geelong this year so we’ve done it all.
“This year we’ve just been watching them get better and better and I think this is our year.”
Ms Fields also had the opportunity to introduce Jason to his human namesake earlier this year as they go to the same chiropractor.
“I was really lucky to be able to take him down to my chiropractor, who Jason goes to, and he had a photo table with him so I was absolutely wrapped,” she said.
“He thought he was beautiful, and he got down on his hands and knees and patted him and cuddled him. He was so lovely.”
Entries for the competition are open until Tuesday, September 17 – find out how to enter here.
