Hong Kong jockey Karis Teetan booked for Evaporate ride in Cox Plate

One Hong Kong-based jockey has been booked to ride a Group 1-placed three-year-old in the Cox Plate while another has secured the ride on a leading Victoria Derby chance.

A Hong Kong jockey has been booked to ride a talented three-year-old in Saturday’s Cox Plate.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club has given Karis Teetan permission to head back to Melbourne to ride Evaporate for trainers Ben, JD and Will Hayes in Saturday’s $5 million weight-for-age feature.

Teetan rode the unplaced Coco Sun in last Saturday’s Caulfield Cup.

Evaporate – winner of the Group 2 Stutt Stakes at The Valley before his third in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas, beaten less than a length by Private Life and Feroce – would be a second 2024 Cox Plate runner for Lindsay Park, who will also saddle up last year’s runner-up Mr Brightside.

Likely Cox Plate runners include reigning Australian horse of the year Pride Of Jenni, Japanese star Prognosis, UK raider Docklands, Chris Waller’s Turnbull Stakes winner Via Sistina and James Cummings’ Golden Rose champ ‘Broadsiding. In addition, Kovalica (Waller) and Royal Patronage (Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott) have both been sent to their trainers’ respective Melbourne stables with the Cox Plate in mind.

Meanwhile, Hugh Bowman will ride Keeneland in the Victoria Derby.

Bowman received permission to ride at Flemington on Derby Day.

He also has bookings for the Chris Waller-trained Emirate in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and Kimochi for Sydney trainer Gary Portelli in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes.
