Master trainer Chris Waller hopes his new import Kinesiology can ‘do a Soulcombe’ by winning the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) before becoming a Melbourne Cup contender next year.
The lightly-raced four-year-old just missed out on getting a run in this year’s Cup, but gets a great chance to start off his Australian career in winning fashion at Flemington on Saturday.
“He is a lovely horse, we will (learn a bit about him),” Waller said. “He is similar to Soulcombe, who was good enough to win the (Queen Elizabeth Stakes) race.”
“He has done everything right in quarantine, and is coming down here with good form.”

Soulcombe won his first start in Australia in the same race in 2022 and went on to run a luckless second in last year’s Melbourne Cup.
Waller said of Kinesiology: “We haven’t asked how fast he could run, but he has done everything in a reasonable tempo.”
Kinesiology has won one of his seven starts, with five seconds, and he is a $2.80 favourite to win this race with Ladbrokes.

Waller is looking forward to seeing his superstar mare Via Sistina back at the track for the Group 1 Champions Stakes (2000m).
“Via Sistina seems to have come through the (Cox Plate) run well,” he said. “It’s hard to quantify how much it can take out of you, but we can’t see anything.”
He said Atishu had come through her Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) win well ahead of her clash with stablemate Via Sistina in the Champions Stakes.
Fangirl will run in a star-studded Champions Mile.
“Originally I was going to run Fangirl in the 2000m (race) and dodge Pride of Jenni, (but) now I am dodging our own horse (Via Sistina),” he said.
