BEST BET

SALTBURN (Race 1 No.5 – $3.80)

The three-year-old covered ground before being grabbed late at Geelong second-up. He’ll be fitter again and looks ready to win at Pakenham.

NEXT BEST

MARINE GRADE (Race 4 No.5): Cranbourne trainer Mick Kent will produce the well-bred filly for the first time at Pakenham. Her jumpouts indicate a strong showing is likely.

RICH LOVER (Race 7 No.6): Rich Lover has performed well at both runs to date, including at Wangaratta last time out. He’ll have every chance from barrier one.

VALUE BET

SUPER TROOPER (Race 6 No.5): Trialled well before giving too much start in tricky conditions at Warrnambool. Fitter for this and will improve on better ground.

THE JOCKEY

BEN ALLEN

Jockey Ben Melham heads to Pakenham for five rides on Thursday. BOTANICAL BOY (Race 2 No.1 – $2.90), FIERY DEAL (Race 4 No.10 – $8), BETWITCHERY (Race 5 No.4 – $2), ZOUPER FUND (Race 6 No.4 – $2.80), FEELING DUSTY (Race 8 No.4 – $4).
