Tentyris franked the Blue Diamond form and gave Godolphin the feature two-year-old double when he ran down Golden Slipper favourite Wodeton at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
Trainer Anthony Freedman, who knows a thing or two about winning Golden Slippers, said there is improvement to come from Tentyris after his fast-finishing win in the Group 2 $300,000 Todman Stakes (1200m).
“First run in Sydney and he had to go well back from the draw but he’s finished off hard. He should run very well in the Slipper,” Freedman said.

“This horse is improving at a rate of knots so if he has a good couple of weeks he will be thereabouts.”
Tentyris ($8.50) finished powerfully wide out to reel in Wodeton ($2 favourite) to win by three-quarters of length with Nepotism ($41) a half-length away third.
TAB Fixed Odds price assessors reacted immediately to Wodeton’s defeat and although he retains favouritism for the $5m Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 22, he has eased from $3.50 to $5.
The big Slipper firmers are the Godolphin duo Tentyris and Reisling Stakes winner Tempted who are now equal second favourites at $7.
By way of comparison, Tentyris ran the Randwick 1200m in 1m 9.06s and the James Cummings-trained Tempted took only 1m 8.49s.
Champion jockey Nash Rawiller described Tentyris as the “real deal” after the Street Boss colt’s exciting win.
“I haven’t had the best run over the last few weeks so it was nice to get on him on Tuesday and have a ride on him and even better that he’s backed it up today,” Rawiller said.

“He’s an unassuming colt. He leaves a lot inside but you could tell getting to the furlong, when I asked him for an effort, there was something there. He’s the real deal. He is a lovely horse.”
Freedman, who trains in partnership with his son Sam, said Tentyris has continued to improve since his close second to Devil Night in the Blue Diamond.
“To do what he did and not be a Sydney two-year-old is not easy to do, to come from nearly last and pick up what is meant to be the best of them,” Freedman said.
“If he has a good couple of weeks he is going to be right there.”
The Freedmans have recently opened a Sydney stable base at Randwick with Anthony moving here to oversee the 24-horse operation while Sam takes care of their sizeable Melbourne team.
Anthony Freedman worked closely with his brother, Lee, in an era before training partnerships when they prepared four consecutive Golden Slipper winners with Merlene (1996), Flying Spur (1995), Danzero (1994) and Bint Marscay (1993), and he believes it is imperative for a trainer to have a Sydney stable.
“To be honest, if you want to win these big races you need a base up here,” Freedman said.
We had a base here in the 90s when we won those (four) Slippers. We haven’t won one since, although we’ve run placings.
"He should run very well in a (Golden) Slipper."

“The (Randwick) stable brings in the Slipper, the Magic Millions, those races. They’re the races you really need to be winning to be putting yourself in the frame for those better bred yearlings.
“It’s important to get off the ground and hit the ground running so hopefully we can build off that and in two weeks it will be great.”
Tentyris is now on target to become the seventh to complete the Todman Stakes-Golden Slipper double after Farnan (2020), Vancouver (2015), Pierro (2012), Tierce (1991), Marauding (1987) and Luskin Star (1977).
But trainer Chris Waller is still upbeat about Wodeton’s Golden Slipper chances despite the colt’s narrow loss.
“I thought he was good, obviously I would have liked him to win,” Waller said.
“But I do feel the pressure of a Golden Slipper will suit him.
“He will be going into the race with three runs, he will be rock-hard fit on the day, there’s still some improvement to come as he had a bit of a blow today.”
Waller dismissed any thought of adding blinkers to Wodeton for the Golden Slipper.
