TAREE INSIDE MAIL

RACE 1

Kitsilano has placed at four of his 13 starts, two of them were seconds, both of those were here at home and both by beaten a neck by the winner. What is really interesting about those two seconds is that one was over 1250m while the other was over 2000m which says it all about this horse’s versatility. With that in mind, surely 1300m first-up is the sweetest spot? King Soleil has been very good indeed in his three runs. Drawn out but can perhaps be expected to race on-pace which can’t hurt. Smart Lily struck a few bogs at her first prep.

Bet: Kitsilano to win, quinella 3,4

RACE 2

Sheila’s Fanta Sea is a handy mare, handy enough even to make a long-range forecast that he could go to a Highway one day. She certainly is the right stable to get there with Wayne Wilkes. The daughter of the hugely underrated stallion Sebring Sun has good numbers across the board. Good draw and gets 2kg off. Talking of numbers, Mosgiel Daisy has three wins and a second from five starts at the track/distance. Manage The Cycle has been running well in strong races in the Hunter.

Bet: Sheila’s Fanta Sea to win, quinella 2,6

RACE 3

Search Warrant has placed at three of his eight starts, one of those thirds was here at Taree behind a Eclair Encore who ran fifth in the Spring Stakes just the other day. Search Warrant’s own last start was a third at Wyong. Cats Quarters is a local but with a visitor’s draw. The mare remains winless after 22 starts (somehow) but she has finished runner-up at four of nine at Taree and twice second in three runs at the t/d. Wing Nut has always given the impression that he wants a mile and gets there in good shape.

Bet: Search Warrant to win, box trifecta 5,8,9,12

RACE 4

Calido Magic is a lightly-raced son of Supido with two seconds, one third from five starts. The Karen Owen galloper was a trial winner at Kempsey six days prior to his outstanding second at Port Macquarie where drew 10 of 11, ninth at the turn, passed all bar the winner. Sir Tom is an old fashioned bookie’s pin-up. The Paul Perry-trained grandson of Choisir is a 23-start maiden (often when fancied) but he has placed 15 times and very often in far superior quality maidens than this one. Queen Calanthe was good at her Glen Milligan debut.

Bet: Calido Magic to win (best bet), exacta 2 to beat 3

RACE 5

Etude is an Exceedance filly out of a handy mare named Sangita. The grandam is a half-sister to Starspnagledbanner. With all that said, she was still passed in (reserve $30,000) as a weanling. Kia Ora took her home and fast forward a bit, gave her to Kris Lees who won with her on debut (bit green but emphatic) on debut at Muswellbrook. Christian Reith on then and now. If the Yamba’s Girl that won on debut at Taree this year shows up, she will be walking away with a medal. Lee and Cherie Curtis’ Princess Vittoria has done enough to warrant the highest respect here.

Bet: Etude to win

RACE 6

Bob’s Last One is named after the late, great Taree icon Bob Milligan – and we’re only 19 days away from the 23-year anniversary of Bob’s Villiers win with Carael Boy who won seven in a row by the way! As for son Glen’s horse’s, Bob’s Last One’s best form has been first-up, at Taree and over the 1000m. Canamble has a wide draw but plenty of talent. Has also accepted for the Central West meeting. Not a race meeting goes by at Taree when and where Tony Ball doesn’t train at least one winner. It could very well be Where’s The Fire.

Bet: Bob’s Last One to win

RACE 7

Oakfield Peewee has accepted for Taree and the proposed Central West meeting on the same day. Just in case he comes here, let it be noted that his record at Taree is three visits for a win and a second. Long story short, he has run one bad race and that was on a Heavy 10. Paul Perry’s Yorikiri has only managed two wins in his 32 starts but one of them was at Taree. No doubt the son of Mikki Isle sent out some positive signs first-up at Scone even though he beat only one home. It was a good Class 3. Yareakh is not without claims.

Bet: Oakfield Peewee to win or if scratched Yorikiri to win
