Trainer Darryl Hewitt has produced a huge boilover at Murray Bridge, with first starter Sir Now winning at sensational odds of $126 with TAB ahead of heavily backed favourite Mesrour on Wednesday.
A two-year-old colt by Sir Prancealot, Sir Now was unwanted in betting by punters for Wednesday’s opening race, a Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate over 1000m.
A sixth-placed trial finish at Murray Bridge – where he was beaten by 7.8 lengths – was the colt’s only form reference heading his debut run.

Sir Now began well under hoop Maggie Collett and led the field up to the turn with Mesrour parked outside, the favourite looked to be travelling the better of the two upon straightening but Sir Now kicked back to off Mesrour, who had to settle for second as punters ripped their tickets in half.

Mesrour – a two-year-old gelding by Nicconi – was crunched in betting to jump as a $1.95 as favourite.

The gelding came into the race following a second on debut in Saturday grade at Morphettville Parks, before a third-placed finish in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic at Murray Bridge on March 9.
It was a particularly memorable race for Hewitt, who also saddled up another debutant, Snoopy Now – who hit the line well to nab third.
Snoopy Now was the more fancied runner of the Hewitt pair, jumping at $8, and had beaten Mesrour in a Murray Bridge trial on June 17.
