Wet Doomben track the key to Tony Gollan’s Hidden Wealth in Group 1 Doomben 10,000

The wetter the better for Hidden Wealth as Tony Gollan looks to again score the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 after he won it in 2014 with grand galloper Spirit Of Boom.

With no disrespect to Hidden Wealth, he is probably no Spirit Of Boom.

But with the prospect of a rain-affected track on Saturday, the sprinter will get a golden chance to follow in the hoofprints of one of Tony Gollan’s greatest horses and score the Doomben 10,000.

Spirit Of Boom won the Doomben 10,000 back in 2014 and the two-time Group 1-winning galloper helped put former Toowoomba boy Gollan on the map.

Spirit Of Boom was a $4.80 chance when defeating half-brother Temple Of Boom in 2014 but fast forward 11 years and Hidden Wealth is a $13 chance to score the 10,000.

Hidden Wealth’s record is nothing to be sneezed at, having won half of his 18 starts including a triumph at Group 3 level when winning the George Moore Stakes on a heavy track at Doomben last November.

This will be his first try at Group 1 level but Gollan believes a heavy track will bring him right into the race.

There is the prospect of a significantly rain-affected Doomben track on Saturday given the amount of rain south-east Queensland has copped in recent times and the fact there is more rain on the way in Brisbane this week.

“It is his first go at this sort of level and a really wet track would be to his liking,” Gollan said.

“It would really bring him right into the race.

“It is good to have Tommy Berry on as he knows the horse so well and I loved to see him draw well (barrier two).

“It’s a pretty good Doomben 10,000 and it’s a race with a stack of speed in it.

“I can’t fault the horse, it’s just a matter whether he can handle this level of racing.”

Doomben 10,000 tips, runner-by-runner form analysis

Hidden Wealth’s most recent run – when starting a $6.50 chance in the Group 2 Victory Stakes and finishing 13th – was a train wreck.

He was slow away but then surged around them wide and with no cover and was entitled to be out of petrol tickets a long way from home.

“It was a forget run,” Gollan said.

“He stepped away muddling and then just drove around them, three-wide and no cover on a day where there was no advantage to be three-wide facing the breeze.”

Gollan also has Zarastro ($26) in the Doomben 10,000 but he wants the opposite of Hidden Wealth.

Zarastro is not much chop on a heavy track.

Melbourne Cup hero likely to miss Qld winter carnival

Meanwhile, Gollan said his best horse Antino had “pulled up great” from last Saturday’s stunning Hollindale Stakes romp and was primed to tangle with Pride Of Jenni in Saturday week’s Doomben Cup.

“He paraded a little bit on the fresh side last Saturday, so there is good improvement to come,” Gollan said.

“The fitness base is there and that run will bring him on substantially.

“You are going to see a horse who is in really, really good shape for the Doomben Cup.”

Doomben 10,000 day fields full of quality

Racenet this week revealed details of a Brisbane Racing Club promotion surrounding the Antino v Pride Of Jenni Doomben Cup clash.

If either horse wins the Cup, the BRC will shout every adult on course a free XXXX beer.
