Trainers Richard and Will Freedman are eager to capitalise on Elettrica’s purple patch and catch fresh rivals on the hop in Saturday’s Group 2 $300,000 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens.

A battle-hardened Elettrica has gone to another level this preparation and will be hunting back-to-back stakes victories on home turf.

The daughter of Vespa added some valuable black type to her breeding page last start with a slashing victory from back in the field in the Listed Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m).

“I rate her pretty highly,” Will Freedman said.

“In the form she is in, she is in that purple patch that mares can get in.

“I think she will hold her form.

Makarena is a pretty talented mare and I can see why she is favoured but she (Elettrica) is definitely going to be running out a strong 1300m and she has a strong turn of foot with a good draw, so I can’t really knock her too much.”

Elettrica, a $5.50 chance, holds the fitness advantage on all of her main rivals in the Millie Fox with Makarena, Hinged, Scarlet Oak and Firestorm all first-up.

The Millie Fox will be her seventh run this preparation and is giving every indication she will continue to hold her form.

“Her work on Tuesday was as good as she been doing all prep and usually if she works well on a Tuesday, she races well on a Saturday,” Freedman said.

“I would be really disappointed if she wasn’t fighting out the finish and it wouldn’t surprise me on the pure basis that she is the fit mare, that she is able to run over the top of them.”

The Freedmans’ other runner on the card is also a last start stakes winner.

Coastwatch was a strong winner of the Listed John Dillon Stakes at Sandown Lakeside last start and returns to Sydney to contest the Asahi Super Dry Benchmark 100 Handicap (1400m).

“Coastwatch is obviously carrying a fair bit of weight which makes it more difficult and a stickier draw (barrier 8),” Freedman said.

“He will go forward and make his own luck. I thought his trial was good against some Group 1 quality horses.

“If we can get an ounce of luck after the jump he will be there a long way but his main target is that Newcastle Stakes in two weeks’ time.”
