Jockey-turned-trainer Peter Robl eyes more Scone success with 2025 Denise’s Joy Stakes contender Overfull
The Gold Coast trainer enjoyed a day out in the saddle at Scone 12 years ago and he returns on Saturday with a great chance in the Listed $200,000 Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m).

Peter Robl once made the Scone’s two-day carnival his own in the saddle, now he’s back again to steal another share of the loot as a trainer.
The former Group 1-winning hoop was in the twilight of his riding career in 2013 when rode a four-timer – then half the card – with four stakes winners across the Saturday program.
Robl had a day to remember as he captured the Denise’s Joy Stakes on Diamond Earth, Luskin Star Stakes on Fontelina, Woodlands Stakes aboard Tweet as well as the Dark Jewel Classic on Arctic Flight.

On Saturday, he will return to Scone to try to win the Listed $200,000 Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m) for the second time, this time on the other side of the fence.
Robl will saddle up talented filly Overfull in the three-year-old fillies feature.
Scone has already proven to be a happy hunting ground for Overfull, which saluted at the same two-day carnival last year with victory in Friday’s $200,000 Inglis Challenge (1100m).
“She has come up terrific,” Robl said.
“I think she has trialled up really well on tracks that aren’t really suitable to her.
“She doesn’t really like a wet track.
“This prep she is a lot stronger than she was last prep and while she hasn’t grown much, she has certainly strengthened up.”

Overfull has won both of her trials in the lead up to her return from a break and will be ridden on Saturday by Damien Thornton.
Robl had the option of keeping Overfull in Queensland for the Listed Bright Shadow (1110m) at Doomben but instead elected to head south from his Gold Coast base.
“Those four- and five-year-old mares that are Benchmark 95 horses – Scone compared to Brisbane, she is running against her own age and not taking on those tougher mares,” he said.
“The weather looks better for her and while it’s a solid race at Scone, I think she is going to be more competitive on her preparations.”
