Chris Munce has faith apprentice Tahlia Fenlon can secure her first stakes win with well-backed Kahlisee at Eagle Farm

Chris Munce has long spruiked the ability of his apprentice Tahlia Fenlon and says she has a golden opportunity to win her first stakes race at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Chris Munce is adamant the time is right to throw his apprentice Tahlia Fenlon a golden opportunity to land her first stakes-level victory at Eagle Farm on Saturday as the money starts to tumble in for his filly Kahlisee in the Listed Gold Edition.

The grand slam-winning jockey-turned-trainer only put Kahlisee in the race when it came up weaker than expected and opted to put Fenlon in the saddle, despite apprentices not being allowed to use their claim in the feature.

While she has had black-type opportunities in the past, Munce, who trains in partnership with his son Corey, said Fenlon is up to the level and will compete strongly aboard the $4.80 second favourite.

“I don’t know where the money has come from, I hope they are good judges,” Munce laughed.

“She was put in as a late nom when it was so wet because we know she goes so good on it, but we think she goes just as well on the dry tracks.

“It hasn’t come up the strongest race in all honesty, I think everyone is holding back for Magic Millions these days, so we will probably go around.

“She is already a stakes placegetter after running second in the Mode.

“Tahlia deserves her chance on the horse, she works hard and she doesn’t make a lot of mistakes.

“The opportunities she gets aren’t always the best but she makes the most of them, they are often long prices in betting and gives them their chance if they are good enough.

“I certainly have no issues putting her on.”

Kahlisee relished a bottomless track at Doomben last start when running second to Spicy Martini in the Listed Mode Plate, with Munce saying he expects her back to her best on-speed best on Saturday.

Despite being drawn barrier nine, Munce expects Fenlon to be able to roll across and potentially dictate terms.

“I think she is a chance of getting a much more comfortable lead than what she has been able to get in her last few chances,” he said.

With race favourite Scripted beating his horse Bollinger Miss, Munce is well aware of her ability and said he has respect for the Matt Dunn-trained horse.

“That filly looks good, it beat Bollinger Miss a few starts back and is the one to beat,” he said.
