DUBBO

RACE 1

Speck is another Rod Northam bargain buy, this one knocked down for $8,000. Pedigree buffs take note; her grand-dam is a half sister to Staging. Speck has two wins and a second from seven starts. She broke her maiden at this track and over this distance. Jamakin Money broke her maiden at home at Wyong, also over 1000m. She will find this easier than her first-up assignment, a Wyong Benchmark 64. Gidgee Guy has won 7 times.

Bet: Speck to win

RACE 2

Written By Choice has finished runner-up at his last two runs where he started from the outside in each one, hence why he went back, but flew late. Logic would suggest that he is ready (or even crying out) for 1400m - at home today too. Kuroshinzo remains winless after 20 starts which is quite unbelievable. That said, only seven of those runs are for Mack Griffith and he has four seconds to show for himself.

Bet: Written By Choice to win, exacta 1 to beat 2

RACE 3

Storm Park is a Waikato Stud bred son of Ocean Park out of a Listed winning kiwi mare, Cool Storm. Bought for $140,000 at Karaka, Storm Park showed significant improvement from his debut sixth to win that 1600m Tamworth Maiden. Taipan Legend is still searching for that elusive win after 14 starts but keep in mind he beat Storm Park home at Mudgee before Storm Park turned the tables at Tamworth. Luna Flirt just can’t draw an alley but is in this with a chance.

Bet: Storm Park, exacta 5 to beat 10, quinella 5,10

RACE 4

Hinune was scratched from Muswellbrook on Monday to run here and while ‘masterstroke’ might be taking it a bit too far, if you compare the two races and the barriers and such, it was a no-brainer to wait 24-hours. That said, Hinune has some genuine competition, mainly and mostly from the Todd Howlett trained Athena’s Treasure was handed in an honourable and encouraging fifth at Taree on debut. Had trialled well before that too. Wotastatement is trained here and has drawn well.

Bet: Hinune to win, exacta 11 to beat 9

RACE 5

Fortians started at $4.40 at Warwick Farm on debut in Oct 2023, finishing fifth of six to his then Tulloch Lodge stablemate Sovereign Hill. He was sold for $22,500 online in March 2024 and has raced five times since with some good runs in there too. Turned in a ripper first at Orange on Dec 30. Macedonian is by Reliable Man from one of the best families in the Studbook. Does he need the run or is he ‘too good’ for them? Hard to know but his trial was better than it looks.

Bet: Fortians to win, Macedonian each-way

RACE 6

She’s A Bad Girl has finished on the podium at 13 of her 24 starts but only one of them was a win. That said, her 12 placings are split 6-6, seconds and thirds so she is nearly always thereabouts. That was the case again last start at Port Mac where she finished third to her talented stablemate Sneaky Sofia. Girrawheen beat Singing Star to win the Silver Goblet at his first start. Since then, he has run third to Sir Remlap at Scone. Go well.

Bet: She’s A Bad Girl to win, quinella 6,7

RACE 7

Onyaspeed is a Toby Pracey trained daughter of Exosphere whose three starts so far include an easy win and a close second either side of a 13th of 13 at Muswellbrook. Those were all of her runs at her first preparation which ended on April 7, 2024. Long time off but trialled twice and in good hands. The Mooch has just one won from 30 starts but she has placed 10 times. As for the distance, her record of 14 starts, six seconds and a third. She will get there again one day; could be Tuesday.

Bet: Onyaspeed each-way, The Mooch each-way, box trifecta 8,11,13,14

RACE 8

Ta Set Neferu is a well-bred filly by US Triple Crown winner American Pharoah out of a General Nediym mare. The Todd Howlett trained chestnut has done more good than bad in her seven starts. She beat Tootsie (she won on Sunday) to win her Maiden but better yet, Howlett’s 3YO was a last start/first-up Taree winner. Himorher has mixed and matched it in better races against better horses; ‘Exhibit A’ being her second to Know Thyself at Scone.

Bet: ta Set Neferu to win, quinella 6,9 box trifecta 4,6,9,12
