Barrier draw sets Private Eye a huge task

Star galloper Private Eye has to overcome a horror draw if he’s to win his first race of the preparation in the Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Star galloper Private Eye has to overcome a horror draw if he’s to win his first race of the preparation in the Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

A field of 18 runners has been declared for the quality handicap.

Private Eye is the 60.5kg topweight in the race and has drawn barrier 16 while his stablemate King Of The Castle fared more favourably and will start from barrier 7.

Chris Waller as well as Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and Peter Snowden are the other stables with multiple runners.

Waller’s duo of Chrysaor and Tannhauser has drawn 8 and 18 respectively while the Tulloch Lodge runners Hoo Ya Mal has drawn barrier 2 with So United to jump from barrier 4. The Snowden pair of Xidaki and Need Som luck will start from barriers 12 and 14.

The Hunter runner-up, Gary Nickson’s Felix Majestic has drawn barrier 17 while Ciaron Maher’s Little Dance winner St Lawrence starts from barrier 9.

The forecast heading into Saturday could result in a good to anything up to a heavy rated track with storms forecast on Friday and Saturday throwing up the possibility of between five and 55mm of rainfall leading into the meeting.

The Rosehill track was rated a good (4) at acceptance time. The rail will be in the true position on Saturday.

Saturday’s 10-race program commences at 12.35pm with the final event to be run at 5.55pm.
