Joliestar, who ran unplaced as favourite in The Everest last year, showed she was set to be a sprinting force in autumn again with a brilliant barrier trial win at Rosehill Gardens on Thursday.
Chris Waller’s outstanding mare was kept under a tight hold by Kerrin McEvoy during her 900m heat before cruising through a gap to win by a short neck from Panic who finished strongly wide out.

Lindermann, a stablemate of Joliestar, showed surprising speed to lead the trial for a long way and finished within a half length of the winner in third placing.
Joliestar, who ran seventh in The Everest behind Bella Nipotina and ran a similar placing behind in Lake Forest’s Golden Eagle, is dynamic fresh and will probably trial again before an expected return in the Group 2 $300,000 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on February 15.

Then it was talented Godolphin colt Traffic Warden’s turn to strut his stuff in the second trial of the Rosehill session.
Traffic Warden, who was scratched at the barriers just prior to The Everest last spring, wasn’t tested by rider Zac Lloyd and cruised into third placing beaten 1½ lengths behind Shezanalister and promising import Givemethebeatboys.
Godolphin trainer James Cummings also trialled his unbeaten two-year-olds Tempted and Comedy.

Tempted, a daughter of Street Boss who won at Warwick Farm last month, came from back in the field with a late surge to win her heat even though Lloyd didn’t put the filly under any pressure.
McEvoy rode Kirkham Plate winner Comedy who chased home talented duo Feel The Breeze and Tropic.
Bjorn Baker’s brilliant two-year-old filly Within The Law, winner of the Inglis Banner and Inglis Nursery at her only two starts, settled back in her 900m heat and was given more rein in the straight by jockey Jason Collett before closing late to finish a close second to Snitzel Miss.
