Siobhan Rutledge became the latest Irish jockey to strike gold in Queensland as she scored her first Saturday metropolitan winner only three months since shifting her life from the other side of the world.

Rutledge has joined the likes of Melbourne Cup winner Robbie Dolan, Martin Harley and Luke Dempsey who now call the Sunshine State home after originally coming from Ireland.

Only a couple of days before St Patrick’s Day, Rutledge had the luck of the Irish when she won on Chris and Corey Munce-trained Poster Girl at Eagle Farm.

Irish eyes were smiling everywhere, with Poster Girl’s owners also hailing from Ireland.

Rutledge came Down Under on a short-term stint but already she is thinking of potentially calling Australia home more permanently.

“Initially I had planned to come out for a little while, but I want to give it a good whack now and see where it goes,” Rutledge said.

“I had a midweek winner the other day, but this is my first Saturday winner.

“Being from Ireland, it’s the weekend of St Patrick’s Day, I’m sure there is going to be lots of partying tonight.

“It’s a very different style of racing in Australia compared to what I am used to and it’s very different even at track work in the mornings compared to what I am used to back home.

“But Corey and Chris have explained everything to me really well and I think I have taken to it naturally enough.

“I thought Queensland would be a good place to come for a few opportunities.”

Poster Girl was resuming in the QTIS 3YO BM70 Handicap (1200m) and was a huge drifter in betting, blowing like the wind from $9 to $21.

But the three-year-old filly, who finished sixth in Storm Boy’s Gold Coast Magic Millions Classic triumph in 2024, produced a fabulous win.

“It was her first start back in a while, but she travelled really well into the race and was game to the line,” Rutledge said.

“I love riding in Australia but as you can see, I’m probably still struggling with the heat a bit.”
