Here To Shock leads home Lindsay Park quinella in The Supernova at Pakenham

The Hayes brothers had long earmarked The Supernova for Here To Shock and the plan went accordingly in a stable quinella.

Lindsay Park starred in the $1m The Supernova (1400m) with Here To Shock and Arkansaw Kid at Pakenham.

Favourite Nadal, who won the first leg of the new Southside slot series, the $1m The Meteorite (1200m) last month at Cranbourne, loomed in the straight from a long way back but failed to run the distance.

Chorlton Lane provided a consolation for Nadal trainer Ciaron Maher, driving through late in restricted room to grab third from Just Folk.

Lindsay Park’s long-range plan to target The Supernova with Here To Shock paid off, while Arkansaw Kid, luckless in the Meteorite last start, warranted a tilt at The Supernova.

“It was terrific … cheering for both of them,” co-trainer Will Hayes said.

“Here To Shock, he’s an absolute marvel.

“We were very confident after the Big Dance in Sydney we were going to get him back and we had our eyes set on this race from a long way out.

“So, that’s why he was representing our slot today but Arkansaw (Kid) ran huge and thanks have got to go to Cavallo Park Stud who let us enter Arkansaw in that slot. They both ran super today.”

Here To Shock enjoyed a dream ride under Daniel Stackhouse, who sealed a Pakenham treble with the win, and improved his 1400m record to seven wins from 15 starts at the trip.

Here To Shock also won a 1350m Group 3 in Queensland last winter.

“He’s a pretty dangerous 1400m horse and we still think, well-weighted, he can get a mile,” Hayes said.

“So the options are aplenty. I don’t think many horses will want to be seeing him line up against them.”

The Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 8 could be an option for the distance specialist.

Stackhouse summed up the race quickly after a slower than anticipated start from the barrier.

“He stepped OK, I sort of had to use him, obviously everyone wanted to be in a position,” Stackhouse said.

“We just had to do a little bit of work for the early half but it’s such a beautiful straight run into that first corner, that’s right when Buffalo comes, he gave me a nice tow into it.

“I could just use him as a bunny, he switched off great … nursed him along and got to the 300m and he just kept doing the rest and felt like Arkansaw Kid coming and he just toughed it out.”

Meanwhile, Maher’s national assistant trainer Jack Turnbull said Nadal would be kept to sprint trips going forward.
