CHRIS VERNUCCIO’S $200 BETTING STRATEGY

RACE 8 FLEMINGTON

$50 win PEREILLE (5) at $2.60

Pereille just missed in his past two runs at Randwick and Canterbury but his racing pattern has often proven costly – he has finished second in 11 of his 22 starts, all of them at 1200m. He has had 17 starts at the distance for just four wins but has finished outside the top three only once, and that was a fifth in the Ramornie Handicap when beaten less than a length. This is his first attempt down the Flemington straight but the race sets up well for him.

RACE 5 FLEMINGTON

$50 win NEW YORK LUSTRE at $1.95

Lightly-raced five-year-old mare New York Lustre strolled a 5¼-length win in her return at Seymour. It may have been against BM58 opposition but she smashed the clock. She should be winning again against this field if she can handle the straight.

RACE 5 GOLD COAST

$50 win MISS ROUMBINI (6) at $3.10

Miss Roumbini finished strongly to chase down Pharari and win second-up at Ballarat, after a Group 3 placing behind Niance and She’s Bulletproof at Caulfield. The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr mare was a dominant winner over the 1300m trip in a BM70 at Sandown last year, and she looks a potential Group-class prospect.

RACE 4 WYONG

$50 win IOWNA MERC at $3.20

Iowna Merc looked a great chance in the Group 3 Standish Handicap at Flemington but trainer Bjorn Baker has decided to stay in NSW for this BM100 contest despite the wide draw, top weight and step up to 1350m. He has won his past two and could have the class edge.

QUADZILLA

LEG 1 – RACE 7

Plenty of chances. FLYING FIZZ (15) was disappointing last start at Caulfield Heath when a $2.35 favourite after a dominant win at Donald the start before, but she can bounce back. Improved gelding NEW SOVEREIGN (19) has started his prep with two wins, and needs another scratching to make the field. FLYING MIKI (4) charged home from near last at The Valley and has drawn better this time. KIKO (13) is a query at the track and distance but is racing well. HE’S BESET (5) has a solid first-up record.

FIRST LEG: 4, 5, 13, 15, 19

LEG 2 – RACE 8

PEREILLE (5) has been running well without winning and his finishing burst could be an asset down the straight. IT’SOURTIME (4) has found form in his last two runs at Caulfield and returns to his favourite track. Promising three-year-old WONDER BOY (9) placed twice in Group 3 company last prep which includes a second behind Everest placegetter Growing Empire. Ex-Hong Kong sprinter JOYFUL FORTUNE (3) is having his first start in more than two years but is two from two at Flemington.

SECOND LEG: 3, 4, 5, 9

LEG 3 – RACE 9

Another tough leg. Archie Alexander import PRINCE ERIC (8) has had no luck in his three Australian starts (for three thirds) and gets his chance here from a soft draw. PRINCEOFNOTTINGHAM (9) defeated Price Eric last start at The Valley. ELPHINSTONE (11) didn’t handle the heavy conditions at Caulfield two starts back before winning at Pakenham on a firm track. LE ZEBRA (10) comes up favourite but is 0/4 first-up and 0/5 at the distance. FARHH FLUNG (12) had excuses last start at The Valley behind Princeofnottingham after two seconds before that.

THIRD LEG: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

LEG 4 – RACE 10

Going wide again in the final leg. REWARDS AND MORE (10) has been consistent this prep with two wins and a second and can handle the step up in grade. REDOUTE’S CHOICE (9) scored an easy win at the track and distance on New Year’s Day. DEEKAY (3) was beaten narrowly at Caulfield Heath after a sound performance at The Valley prior. ELBA (15) raced wide without cover first-up at Caulfield Heath. Adelaide visitor WIGGUM (2) drops in class after contesting the Christmas Handicap at Morphettville.

FOURTH LEG: 2, 3, 9, 10, 15

Cost $100 for 20%

SKINNY QUADDIE

2ND LEG: 4, 5, 9

3RD LEG: 8, 11, 12
