Few would deny former North Melbourne star Kerry Good deserved a winning double as an owner at Flemington.
Good endured a parent’s ultimate nightmare when his daughter Ashlee was one of the victims of a shocking knife attack, which claimed six lives, at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre in April last year.
Good said he felt better to see the back of 2024 while 2025 started in brighter fashion for the former North Melbourne Football Club director when he was on hand to see his charges Thedoctoroflove and Taramansour salute at Flemington.

“Last year was very tough, I just couldn’t wait for the year to end. I couldn’t wait to get rid of it,” Good said.
Good added he carried a little piece of his daughter on him during his double triumph, which he was thrilled to share with his son Sam on the younger Good’s birthday.
“I actually wore the same suit as I wore to my daughter’s funeral today and it might have helped,” Good said.
“It’s a very special day.”

Racing has been part of Good’s life for decades and the sport provided something to occupy his mind during his darkest times.
Good reached the top of the racing mountain when a part owner of the 2022 Melbourne Cup winner Gold Trip, while he has raced many successful gallopers.
Good could have a share in another smart stayer after Thedoctoroflove relished his first crack at 2000m to win the National Jockeys Trust Trophy.
The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained Thedoctoroflove had finished in the minor placings over shorter trips at his first two runs but capitalised on the distance to wear down the runner-up Sigirya Rock to win by a half-length.
“With Thedoctorloflove, Trent Busuttin said, ‘I’ve got something that I really like as a type’ and he’s very promising,” Good said.
“Taramansour went to Sydney and was very good and went on with it here, he was strong to the line.
“He was very well ridden and prepared well.”

Good owns shares in horses across several stables but maintains a disciplined approach to his racing.
“I’ve been racing horses with blokes I’ve known for a long time and have still got a passion for it,” Good said.
“We’ve got a budget to invest and we invest that budget while trying to get the best advice we can get.
“It’s fantastic to see when it all comes together.”
