Ozzmosis provided a timely reminder of his burgeoning talent with a consummate win in a Kensington barrier trial on Thursday.
The brilliant Bjorn Baker-trained three-year-old Ozzmosis sat outside front-runner Athelric until the turn before cruising clear to win the 850m heat by three-quarters of a length with Schwarz splitting the early leaders.
The soft 7 track conditions were no hindrance for Ozzmosis who was having his first serious test since winning the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes last spring.
With regular rider Rachel King in Japan, star apprentice Dylan Gibbons got the opportunity to put Ozzmosis through his paces again after riding the colt to a Randwick win last season and spoke in glowing terms to Baker after the trial.
The second trial from Royal Randwick was stacked with stars!

“Ozzmosis has doubled in size,’’ Gibbons enthused,
“When I last rode him I couldn’t rave enough about how good he felt.
“He still feels the same but he just feels bigger, stronger and overall a better horse now.
“It is scary to see the progression he has made but it is a very good sign.’’
Ozzmosis, winner of four of his five starts, is likely to have another barrier trial before he resumes in the Group 1 $1 million The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 23.
Baker said Ozzmosis is being aimed at the Group 1 $3 million TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Day One of The Championships, April 6.
Another of Sydney’s crack colts, Golden Slipper winner Shinzo, settled back in the field on the rails and was caught in the worst part of the going before he went to the line untested to finish sixth.
Hawaii Five Oh (seventh) didn’t appreciate the soft track and was tiring late in the trial while speedy I Am Me was restrained early, settling at the back of the field where she stayed without being put under any pressure.
Pierossa won the opening 1250m trial from Osmose but it was Zardozi’s effort for third really caught the eye.
Godolphin’s star filly Zardozi, winner of the VRC Oaks last spring, was having her second trial this preparation and despite being kept under a tight hold by James McDonald she was closed to within a length of the winner on the line.
Zardozi is being readied for a return to racing in the Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on March 3.
