RISING Socceroos star Daniel Arzani is set to join countryman Tom Rogic at Glasgow giants Celtic after completing his transfer from Melbourne City to sister club Manchester City.

The reigning English Premier League champions are expected to send the 19-year-old winger straight on loan to Celtic, winners of the past seven Scottish Premier League titles.

It’s a similar career path to that taken by another former Melbourne City and current Socceroos gun Aaron Mooy, who has forged an excellent career at EPL club Huddersfield, having initially been sent there on loan.

After a breakthrough season in the A-League, Arzani shot to international prominence as the youngest player at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“Having the chance to train and play in Europe is a dream come true and a challenge I’m confident will only help me improve as a player,” Arzani said in a statement.

Arzani is already in Europe and has reportedly completed a medical at Celtic. The loan move is expected to be completed within days.

“He’s a very intelligent kid, he knows what his plan is, he knows what his goal is and he’s got good people around him to advise him,” new Socceroos coach Graham Arnold said on Thursday.

“The most important thing, and he’s clear about that, is that wherever he goes he has to play.

“He believes in himself a lot, which is great.

“He believes that going to Celtic he’ll get to play more games in Scotland and being part of a Champions League squad than he probably would in Australia.” Fellow attacker Rogic is in his second spell at Celtic, where he is a fan favourite.

He signed a new three-year deal in 2016.
