Sergio Aguero fit for Manchester City title decider

MANCHESTER City’s top scorer Sergio Aguero will be fit for his side’s Premier League title decider against West Ham United.

Manchester City will be at full strength as they look to secure the Premier League title on the final day after Sergio Aguero passed a fitness test.

MANCHESTER City’s top scorer Sergio Aguero will be fit for his side’s Premier League title decider against West Ham United on Sunday.

“The whole squad is fit for Sunday,” manager Manuel Pellegrini said.

“It is very important, always for a manager, if you have your whole squad and choose from all your players.”

Aguero, who scored the dramatic injury-time goal against Queens Park Rangers that gave City the title on the season’s final day in 2012, had been a doubt due to a groin problem.

The 28-year-old Argentine striker, who has scored 28 times in all competitions, limped off in the first half of his side’s 3-2 win at Everton last weekend and sat out the 4-0 home win over Aston Villa on Wednesday.

City effectively need a point against West Ham to secure the title, because although they lead second-place Liverpool by only two points, they have a goal difference advantage of 13 goals.

“It is the work from the whole year that we play for, but also it is a normal game because I think the best way to do it is to repeat what we have done all season so far,” Pellegrini added.

The Chilean, who stands to become the first non-European manager to win an English top-flight title, says that his players do not intend to settle for a draw.

“Every team must play every game to win,” said Pellegrini, who guided City to success over Sunderland in the League Cup final earlier this year.

Pellegrini, 60, had not won a single major trophy in European football prior to this season, but he says that he does not anticipate any problems controlling his nerves on Sunday.

“After so many years, it is very important to control your emotions because when you have to take decisions under emotion, normally you do it the wrong way.”

City took their goal tally for the league season to 100 against Villa and Pellegrini expects them to finish the job in style.

“When I arrived here, my target was always to play well and try to win the title.”
