Robbie Slater describes what it’s like to be a Liverpool fan ahead of high stakes Chelsea match

PEOPLE wonder what it means to follow a club like Liverpool and I can tell you, I’ll be living every moment of the game against Chelsea at Anfield.

PEOPLE wonder what it means to follow a club like Liverpool.

The type of passion that would move a rugby league man like Robbie Farah to have “You’ll Never Walk Alone’’ tattooed on his torso is hard to describe.

For me, following the Reds is something of an heirloom — a gift passed down from my father.

People see the antics and laughter with Bozza on Fox Sports, but I’ll be living every moment of the game against Chelsea at Anfield.

HOW LIVERPOOL, ATLETICO RE-WROTE THE SCRIPT

Watch the clash live on Fox Sports 2 HD from 10.50pm EST on Sunday night, and follow it online in our live blog of the action.

My cousins were at Hillsborough and Heysel, two sad moments in the club’s history.

They will be at Anfield tonight — and I must admit I’ll be a little envious.

Not too many people know this, but Graeme Souness once approached me to play for Liverpool. It was an opportunity lost.

News_Rich_Media: Liverpool favourite Luis Suarez has marked his name in the history books after scoring 30 goals this season so far, a feat only a handful of players have achieved in English Premier League history.

However, it was another Liverpool legend — Kenny Dalglish — who signed me
at Blackburn Rovers, where I was fortunate enough to win the league.

I was all set to join Bozza at Aston Villa — but when Kenny calls, you come running.

It’s hard to describe the passion and raw emotion that will be at Anfield tonight.

Jose Mourinho won’t flinch.

The Chelsea manager is a master of the mind games and he has been trying to get in the heads of Liverpool players and manager Brendan Rodgers all week.

He has said the title race is between Manchester City and Liverpool.

News_Rich_Media: Jose Mourinho was in special form in his latest press conference ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Liverpool, keeping answers short and saying that he is ‘not free’ to tell the truth.

He will play a second-string team tonight and concentrate on the Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid.

No way, Jose. I’m not having a bar of it — and I’m sure that Rodgers won’t be fooled either.

Still, this will be a different test for Liverpool because Jose Mourinho is a master of defensive structure.

Football, to him, is like a game of chess.

News_Image_File: Bozza takes one for the team.

When he was at Inter Milan, he won the unwinnable Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

The Italian team barely got their foot on the ball, but they suffocated Barca, pinched a goal and went on to become the kings of Europe.

News_Rich_Media: A look ahead to Sunday's Premier League action.

Mourinho will use a similar plan to ensure Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and the impressive Raheem Sterling are given no space and time.

All three of Liverpool’s front men are at their best when facing goal and running at defenders.

Chelsea will defend deep at Anfield and try to play on counter-attack.

To ensure they are not suffocated, the Reds will aim to move the ball quickly, play with movement and drag defenders out of position.

It’s a classic battle of different styles and philosophies.

Where Liverpool’s match against Manchester City was a shootout, this will be tactical and tense.

And the rewards are massive.

While my heart says Liverpool will win their first league title in 24 years, my head won’t let me believe it until they beat Chelsea.

I’ll proudly wear my colours. My family will be in the stands.

That’s the passion of football.
