Melbourne City midfielder Jimmy Jeggo cops ban after being found guilty of violent conduct

A former Socceroo will spend a couple of weeks on the sidelines after being banned by Football Australia’s independent match review panel.

A-League opener ends in draw

Melbourne City midfielder Jimmy Jeggo has been suspended for two matches after been found guilty of violent conduct.

Jeggo was sent off in the second half of City’s 1-0 weekend win over Newcastle after scraping his boots studs down the back of fallen Jets midfielder Eli Adams.

Football Australia’s independent match review panel ruled that the former Socceroo committed the offence of “assault on a player”, in this instance violent conduct when not challenging for the ball.

Jeggo has until 2pm (AEDT) on Tuesday to decide whether to appeal the ban via a hearing with the independent disciplinary and ethics committee.

The two other players shown red cards in the opening round of the season – Melbourne Victory captain Roderick Miranda and Sydney FC midfielder Max Burgess – each received one-game suspensions.

Miranda was sent off after his raised boot caught the face of Central Coast Mariners star Mikael Doka during the second-half of Friday night’s season-opening 0-0 draw in Gosford.

The Victory skipper was charged when “serious foul play when challenging for the ball”.

Burgess was charged with the same offence after he was sent off for a studs-up challenge on Western Sydney substitute Ben Holliday in Sydney’s 2-1 derby win over the Wanderers on Saturday night at CommBank Stadium.
