Sam Kerr’s grandmother Coral Kerr was left in a critical condition on Friday after being struck by a car metres from her home in Perth’s southeast.

Ms Kerr was getting off a bus in Palmyra just before 11am when a driver allegedly mounted the curb and hit the 89-year-old, 9News reports.

Witnesses said the driver, a 63-year-old man, was trying to overtake the bus.

He allegedly struck a power pole just before hitting Ms Kerr, and several homes were left without power.

“A bus pulled up at the bus stop and there was a line of traffic, of cars, but this chap must have got very impatient and he decided he’d pull out and go down on the footpath,” neighbour Florence Mudge told 9News.

Neighbours rushed to Ms Kerr’s side to help and alerted her family.

“She really wasn’t responding too much, she was very sweaty and clammy and then she started,” Mary Ivey told 9News. “I think she was in shock obviously.”

Locals said the area was a hot spot for crashes but “this accident is the worst one we’ve ever seen here”, according to Gilbert Anderson.

Ms Kerr was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition.

A hospital spokesman told The West Australian Ms Kerr had improved and she was in a serious but stable condition overnight.

Sam Kerr’s father, Roger Kerr, is reportedly flying to Western Australia from the east coast to be with his mother.

Ms Kerr moved to Australia from India with her husband more than 50 years ago.

The driver is assisting police.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.

Police are also seeking and dashcam or mobile phone vision relating to the crash.
