AN Iain Fyfe penalty kick deep into stoppage time secured Campbelltown City’s berth in the Australian national premier league final after a gallant 2-1 win over at Sydney Olympic at Newton on Saturday.

The 36-year-old’s cool head saw the stopper dispatch the spot kick with ease as Red Devils marched towards the second tier’s biggest prize.

Lui Di Troia was fouled inside the box after a second half Campbelltown counter attack to hand the home side a gifted strike from 12 yards when extra time appeared to be a serious option.

The Red Devils will face Queensland’s Lions at home next weekend in the final which will guarantee the winner a spot in next year’s FFA Cup round of 32.

Lions saw off Victorian premier Heidelberg United on penalties last Tuesday after extra time and a 1-1 draw in the semi final before Campbelltown came from behind to knock Olympic out of the competition.

The clash was less than 90 seconds old when Olympic’s Max Burgess gratefully accepted bucket loads of room inside the Red Devils’ penalty box to fire the ball into the back of the net to stun the home side.

The goal rattled the SA premier until Campbelltown got on top of its game plan picking off its opponent via counter attacks.

A moment of magic from Japanese winger Yohei Matsumoto brought the home side to life.

He ghosted past the Olympic defence made it to the byline before squaring the ball back to former Adelaide United striker Marc Marino.

Marino’s 12m shot took a deflection but nestled into the net a minute before the break before Fye jagged the winner.
