THE sole amateur club remaining in the FFA Cup SA will face a five-time winner in the last eight of the competition as it looks to make state knockout history.
Elizabeth Downs was paired with National Premier Leagues SA powerhouse MetroStars in Tuesday’s quarter-final draw at Hindmarsh Stadium.
But it will face a tougher assignment against Robbie Saraceno’s men in its bid to become the first amateur side to make the final four of the SA cup.
Meanwhile, Raiders will travel to face holder Adelaide Comets after disposing of Adelaide Blue Eagles in their third round tie.
The all top-flight encounter will be a homecoming of for English striker Terence Carter, who left Comets to join the Gepps Cross club in the summer.
“It will be an interesting game,” said Carter following the draw, which was live streamed on The Advertiser sport Facebook page.
“I know a lot of those boys and I know what a quality side they are.
“They took a few points off us (in the league) a few weeks ago, so it will be nice to get some revenge on them this time around.
“They’ve imported a few new players … so they’ll have some new tricks up their sleeve.
“But we set some goals at the start of the season and we said we want to battle for the league and see if we can get a good run in the cup.
“We know we have a pretty decent side, so if we do everything we can do … we can hopefully get to the final.”
In other fixtures, State League One Adelaide Victory will host NPL club Adelaide Olympic.
The second-tier side pulled off an upset in the previous round, knocking out five-time cup winner White City.
Former National Soccer League champion Adelaide City faces a tough trip to Polonia Reserve to take on fellow top flight outfit Croydon Kings.
The midweek ties will be played on May 22-23. Fixture details and venues will be announced in the coming days.
The winner of the FFA Cup SA will join A-League club Adelaide United and national NPL winner Campbelltown City as the state’s representatives in the national round of 32.
