Frank de Boer confirms Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in him as coach

AJAX coach Frank de Boer has confirmed Tottenham Hotspur has approached the Amsterdam club to test his interest in coaching in London.

AJAX coach Frank de Boer has confirmed Tottenham Hotspur has approached the Amsterdam club to test his interest in coaching in London.

In an interview with national broadcaster NOS, De Boer said he had been informed of the Spurs call by Ajax football director Marc Overmars.

He said that until the season ends next week, he’s concerned only with Ajax, which clinched the Eredivisie title last weekend for the fourth consecutive time.

Only then will he then be willing to entertain the possibility of a change, though the 43-year-old coach said he’s satisfied at Ajax, his first major coaching job.

“I’m going to listen and talk,” he said.

“Then I’ll make my feelings known.

“I know that Tottenham are a beautiful club with a beautiful history. I want to add something to a club, so that people can say that they see the hand of Frank de Boer.

“Liverpool are a good example of this with Brendan Rodgers.”

He added he sees room to make changes for the better at Tottenham.

Spurs were heavily linked with Louis van Gaal until the sacking of David Moyes at Manchester United, with the Holland coach now backed to move to Old Trafford when his duties with the Dutch national team end after the World Cup in the summer.

De Boer and Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino have since emerged as the leading candidates to take over at White Hart Lane.
