FFA Cup: Hume City beat Adelaide Olympic 3-1

Olympic FC got off to a flier against Hume City in their FFA Cup clash but then things changed.

NPL star's solo goal

A hat-trick from teenage sensation Marko Delic ended Adelaide Olympic’s dream run in the FFA Cup.

The former Melbourne City striker’s goal enabled Hume City to reach the last eight of the knockout competition in a comprehensive 3-1 win at The Parks on Wednesday night.

Delic ripped out Olympic’s hearts after they were in the box seat to advance when a super goal from Mamadi Kamara was the perfect start to a chilly night.

However his effort was soon cancelled out by an opportunist strike from Hume’s 18-year-old Delic when the home side made a mess of defending a routine corner in the first half.

Delic then scored a second goal on the hour.

This time it was much prettier when Hume tore Olympic to shreds.

Slick one touch football from ex A-League attackers James Brown, 29, - a former Gold Coast, Newcastle Jets and Melbourne City player and Vanuatu international Mitch Cooper, 24, ex Jets and Gold Coast, forced Olympic out of shape in defence.

Delic was then in the perfect position to slot in a clever cut back from Hume’s Daniel Dixon to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

His hat-trick arrived 11 minutes later when wingback Matthew Lazarides slalomed his way into the box, had a shot which was parried wide by Olympic keeper Daniel Vaughan before Delic connected - not that well - before the ball rolled over the line.

However after a super cautious opening where the highlight of the first 20 minutes was a robust challenge from Olympic’s Paul Espina, Kamara brought the game to life with a goal worth watching again.

Four minutes after Espina was booked when he took out two Hume players, former Adelaide United youth team captain Paul Wilson and Lazarides in one tackle, Kamara’s breathtaking brilliance stunned the 1389 fans and critics.

The former Adelaide City forward’s jinking run looked like it was going to stumble to a stop at least twice and when Olympic fans shouted for a penalty as he was about to hit the deck, the pint sized winger stayed on his feet to slot the ball home from 8m.

However on a pitch that looks close to being one of the smallest new synthetic ones built by Football Federation SA, Olympic managed to crowd out Hume’s men on the narrow lines which took away the Victorian’s usual attacking wide game.

However after both sides were locked in a 1-1 at the break Benjamin Bowler’s 15m shot which was tipped over the bar by Vaughan sounded an ominous warning as Hume pressed hard to score goals via direct football.

Olympic had their chances from set pieces but the Victorians led by a solid 90 minutes from Wilson prevailed as Delic ended his shift for former Adelaide attacker Mark Ochieng in the 85th minute.
