Daniel Arzani’s frustrating A-League season has ended prematurely, with the former prodigy to miss the rest of Macarthur FC’s campaign due to an ankle injury.

After four uneventful seasons in Europe, the ex-Melbourne City whiz-kid returned home last year to link with Macarthur in the hope of forcing his way into the Socceroos’ 2022 World Cup squad.

However, the attacking weapon failed to convince national coach Graham Arnold that he was ready for a return to the Socceroos’ stage after representing Australia at the 2081 World Cup in Russia.

Arzani, 24, was a major factor in Macarthur’s Australia Cup glory last year but has failed to have the same impact in 19 A-League appearances for the Bulls, who are in ninth spot on the ladder.

He hurt his ankle in a weekend friendly the Bulls were playing during the A-League’s break for the FIFA international window.

Tests later revealed that Arzani had suffered a surgical grade syndesmosis injury that would rule him out for the rest of the season.

“The club wishes Arzani a quick recovery and looks forward to his return for the start of the 2023-24 A-League season,” Macarthur said in a statement.
