ANALYSIS: LUONGO HELPING ANGE’S FORMULA
1/ Mat Ryan 7.5
Didn’t have much to do as the game progressed, but pulled off two superb saves in the opening minutes.
2/ Ivan Franjic 7
Got up and down the flanks well and kept the Omani wingers quiet.
3/ Jason Davidson 7
Got forward as much as he could and his crossing improved as the game progressed.
20/ Trent Sainsbury 7.5
Made a couple of good interceptions early on and had a solid game.
6/ Matthew Spiranovic 7
Did what he needed to do to keep a clean sheet - solid at the back and lead a young back four.
5/ Mark Milligan 7.5
Marshalled the midfield excellently and cooly slotted a penalty, just minutes after having his goal disallowed. A strong performance.
21/ Massimo Luongo 8
The boy wonder did everything but score, though he was at the heart of most of the Socceroos plays going forward. His through-ball to Kruse for the opening goal was special.
17/ Matt McKay 8
Held the midfield solidly alongside Mark Milligan and made no mistake with his goal, which will be a confidence-booster for him.
10/ Robbie Kruse 8
Without a doubt had one of his best games yet for the Socceroos. His run-ins behind the Omani defenders were superb and he took his goal brilliantly.
4/ Tim Cahill 7
It’s unusual not to see his name on the scoresheet, especially after a resounding 4-0 win, but Cahill was clearly targeted by the Omani’s. Still, he managed to lead from the font.
7/ Mathew Leckie 8
Again made some threatening runs and played with energy and urgency, and although he is inconsistent with the final pass, he hit that superb pass for Juric’s goal.
Substitutes
9/ Tomi Juric 7
He lived up to his super-sub hype by scoring with just his second touch of the game.
11/ Tommy Oar 5
Only had a 13 minute cameo.
23/ Mark Bresciano 7
Came on as a second half substitute for Luongo and took over the captaincy. Looked good when he was on the field.
