While Djeparov’s immediate focus is Uzbekistan’s crucial Group B clash against China on Wednesday night at Suncorp Stadium, the two-time Asian Football Confederation player of the year also wants to secure club contract.

The 32-year-old attacking midfielder’s deal with South Korean club Seongnam has expired, and he is yet to be offered a new contract.

While he said would like to stay with Seongnam, Djeparov did not rule out a move to Australia if the A-League came knocking.

He is a former club teammate of Brendan Hamill, the Western Sydney Wanderers defender who previously played at Seongnam.

“He spoke to me a lot of times (about) Australia how it’s here, football and life - I know everything,” Djeparov said.

“If they have offers for me, I can (look at) them.”

Djeparov, capped 105 times for Uzbekistan, is the second Asian Cup star in the space of a few days to discuss a possible move to Australia.

Iraq skipper Younis Mahmoud said on Sunday that Sydney FC were interested in him and had talked about it with the Sky Blues’ Iraqi international Ali Abbas.

Djeparov intends to play on for at least another three years, saying his goal was lead Uzbekistan to 2018 World Cup qualification.

He is also determined to guide the “White Wolves” to Asian Cup glory this month.

“I don’t even have the words to say how important it is for Uzbek people,” Djeparov said when asked what Asian Cup success would mean to the people of Uzbekistan.

The Uzbeks can all but seal themselves a spot in the quarter-finals by beating China.

“It’s a big game for our team and also for China,” said Djeparov, whose side reached the semi-finals of the 2011 Asian Cup before being thrashed 6-0 by Australia.

“For now we don’t think about that because we have an important game (against China).”
