Cross-code star Jenna McCormick’s decision to walk away from the Crows AFLW commitments has paid off.

The Crows two-time premiership winner and Fulham United SA women’s national premier league defender has made the cut for a good look in before the Matildas host two internationals against Chile at Hindmarsh Stadium and NSW in November.

Yet-to-be-capped Mt Gambier-born McCormick, 25, a former Adelaide United player joins two more ex Reds, SA’s new Melbourne City signing Emma Checker, 23, and Atletico Madrid’s Alex Chidiac, 20, in Matildas’ coach Ante Milicic’s 21-person squad for a selection camp.

They will assemble in Sydney from October 1 until October 9.

“This camp will provide a great chance for numerous players on our radar to impress leading up to our November friendly series against Chile in Parramatta and Adelaide,” Milicic said.

“As we look ahead to next year’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers, and beyond that to the new AFC Women’s Asian Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup cycle, it is important that we build more depth in the Matildas’ playing ranks, and this camp will provide a good starting point for that.

“Some players are missing from this camp, and there are a variety of reasons for that including individual loads, injuries, and personal circumstances, however we will be selecting what we believe will be our strongest possible squad for November’s matches against Chile in Australia.”

McCormick spent the last W-League season with Brisbane Roar before agreed Crows commitments took over.

She played in front of a 53,034 record fans for Australian women’s stand-alone sport, at Adelaide Oval for the 2019 AFLW grand final win over Carlton.
