JOHAN Absalonsen has revealed he is pondering an Adelaide United contract extension but is unsure whether he can take it up.
Absalonsen again proved he is vital to Adelaide’s wellbeing when he started his first match for United since October 20, scoring a crucial opening goal in the 1-1 draw with Melbourne City at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday night.
Despite being plagued by what he had described as the worst injury run in his entire impressive career after becoming a Danish international with 326 league games in his native homeland, Absalonsen in his seven A-League games has proven to be a super signing, scoring four goals and credited with three assists.
A thigh injury and later a glute injury has plagued his first season stint outside of Denmark.
“We spoke about it (an extension) with the club and I spoke to coach Marco Kurz, I like it here,’’ Absalonsen said after the recovery session at Elizabeth yesterday.
“My family likes it here but there’s a couple of things that needs to be thought about from my point of view and my family’s point of view.
“Obviously it’s me playing and I’m here with my family, so we all have to agree on staying here or if we got back to Denmark, or what we decide.
“We actually don’t know yet, we’ll have to see within the next couple of weeks.”
Absalonsen says the new deal is financially satisfying.
The former Danish international also has a wife Maria and two young daughters Fenja, 1, and Frigg, 3, to consider before making a very important career decision.
“It’s not financial at all, we as a family we have two small kids and it all has to fit in,’’ Absalonsen said.
“My wife has teaching studies in Denmark and she also has to fit in her future, so we have a lot of things circling around right now so yeah it’s the whole family package.”
With Kurz not putting a deadline on an answer from Absalonsen, the Dane is keen to again start on Friday in just his second home match against Newcastle.
Absalonsen said he felt no consequences from his brilliant 74 minutes on the park on Friday after bagging a super goal in first half stoppage time.
He is also content that German boss Kurz understands his current contract predicament.
“I spoke to Marco a lot about this,’’ Absalonsen said.
“He also tried the thing, moving from Europe to here and he also doesn’t have his small kids here, it’s like some of the same things he can relate to in our situation.”
With Absalonen having much to ponder in the coming weeks he also welcomed the intensity of his colleagues at training yesterday that didn’t feature in Friday’s draw as Kurz now has a fully fit squad apart from Baba Diawara.
“The competition is harder and you can feel it on the pitch, now nobody can say they will definitely be in the team, it’s very good,’’ Absalonsen said.
