Frustrated Adelaide United fans are echoing coach Marco Kurz’s sentiments, slamming the club on social media after it was evident a proven striker would have won the game on Saturday.

Lacking a creative player to bring the game alive, Adelaide dropped two precious points in a scoreless draw against a 10-man Wellington Phoenix at Hindmarsh Stadium.

With Kurz claiming he is not the man to bring a marksman to the club, leaving that to chairman Piet van der Pol, United could lose a player at the other end of the park during this current FIFA transfer window.

The Reds defence is not the problem, giving up just 13 goals which has sparked the interest of South Korean clubs for Jordan Elsey. The lack of potency upfront, with just 14 goals being scored, has cost the club dearly, winning just seven points from 21 in seven home matches.

Elsey is reportedly a target of a Jeonnam Dragons, promoted side Busan I'Park and K-League 2 team Suwon FC, according to respected website goal.com.

The agent reportedly brokering the deal has not responded to inquiries by The Advertiser. At the same time, furious fans have bombarded the club’s Facebook page demanding that a genuine striker be brought in.

Adelaide had 34 shots — seven on target — compared to just four from Phoenix, with two on target.

The Reds forced eight corners to two and played about 27 minutes with an extra man after Spaniard Mandi was expelled for kicking ex Phoenix star Vinni Lia when he was on the ground.

Winger Ryan Kitto created two chances, had four crosses and an off target shot.

He said it was a night to forget in front of goal.

“It was frustrating they defended well but we didn’t finish well,’’ Kitto said.

“A nil all draw is probably what we deserved.

“I think we can improve in all parts I think some of the balls coming into the box are good and should be getting put away but we’re probably not creating enough opportunities.

“I think we’ve just got to keep going keep working hard and believe in ourselves.”

With Nikola Mileusnic benched for the clash after scoring three goals in the previous two matches before Saturday, the winger was suffering from soreness after the 2-1 win over Newcastle Jets away, Kitto said.

Mileusnic came on with about 32 minutes remaining but couldn’t make an impact as Phoenix’s defence was lock tight coupled by a brilliant Filip Kurto performance.

Kitto believes the side will bounce back to beat reigning champion Melbourne Victory at Hindmarsh on Wednesday.

“Our away form has been good fortunately and we see ourselves as being in a good position on the table,’’ Kitto said.

“I think it’s a positive if we’re talking about taking more points (at home) and we’re still sitting fifth. “I think we’re in a good position. It’s also important to put our chances away.”
