JORDAN Elsey is Adelaide United’s go-to guy.
The centre back is the only current player who has served the Reds consecutively since playing for the club’s youth team in 2011.
Seven members of that squad at the 2011 Weifang Cup in China made the transition to the A-League including fringe Socceroos and ex Reds Stefan Mauk and Ben Garuccio and Adelaide goalkeeper Paul Izzo.
Elsey’s longevity at the club hasn’t gone unnoticed.
He is now a member of coach Marco Kurz’s leadership group.
“Isaias is the captain and there is four (leaders) of us behind him,’’ Elsey said sporting Adelaide United’s new season home kit.
“There’s Michael Jakobsen, Vinni Lia, Isaias and myself support Isa (Isaias).
“We have the most experience and I think I’m in there (leadership group) just to learn a little bit more.”
Elsey, however, could give most of the new faces lessons about the Reds history and he could also double up as a tour guide given Adelaide is his home town.
The former Para Hills Knights defender was a huge Reds fan when the club started in 2003 when he was just nine years old.
“Preseason is so long and we have lots of time to get comfortable with the new boys,’’ Elsey said.
“Everyone is fitting in well and everyone knows what Marco expects, even more so in his second year and camaraderie is building every week I feel.
“The FFA Cup also breaks up the preseason too and we’re taking it very seriously again this year.
“We want to go all the way, we got to the final last year but this year we want it all the way proper.
“We’re playing another NPL team APIA Leichhardt (September 26) and we’re getting ourselves conditioned for the FFA cup and the A-League season.
With Elsey sporting Adelaide’s 15th new season kit, the defender is also sure his parents have collected every home kit since the first release in 2003.
“I think (my parents) they would have every kit and I love this new kit,’’ Elsey said.
“It’s got every feature about South Australia, the colours and if feels good on the body nice and light.
“It pays to be very comfortable wearing it.”
