THEY say a week is a long time in football — how about three years on from Adelaide United claiming the inaugural FFA Cup final in 2014.
On the eve of Adelaide United potentially becoming the first club to win the FFA Cup twice — only Sydney FC stands in the way at Allianz Stadium on Tuesday night — we take a look at where most of the players that were in the 16-man 2014 Cup final squad have gone.
Only Reds skipper Isaias, Michael Marrone and Tarek Elrich remain at the club from the historic 1-0 Cup final win over Perth Glory at Hindmarsh where Sergio Cirio scored the winner in front of a partisan 16,142 fans.
Cirio also won the Mark Viduka man-of-the-match medal on what was a sad day for United legend Cassio who was denied joining his teammates’ celebrations after a rift with former coach Josep Gombau.
The two-time Reds player-of-the-year was forced out of the club after playing his last United game in 2013.

Coach: Josep Gombau
Now: Western Sydney — shocked Adelaide by claiming he needed to move away to be closer to his family in Spain in July 2015. Six months later he was in Puerto Rico as head of David Villa’s academy. He then won the Olyroos job and was assistant Socceroos coach before he was appointed boss of Wanderers earlier this month.
