THE Adelaide United exodus has continued with striker Apostolos Stamatelopoulos agreeing to join Western United at the end of the A-League season.
Reds officials released a statement on Wednesday morning confirming the teenager would depart his hometown club following 12 appearances and two goals in the past two seasons.
Stamatelopoulos’ exit came less than 24 hours after news coach Marco Kurz would also leave Adelaide at the conclusion of the campaign.
The Australian under-20 international, who was off-contract in June, had been consistently linked with a move to the competition’s newest side in recent months.
Stamatelopoulos, 19, had featured in just five matches this summer, scoring once, as he struggled with several injuries.
The Adelaide Comets product would be joined at his new club by fellow youngsters Dylan Pierias and Sebastian Pasquali, who had arrived from Melbourne City and Dutch giant Ajax.
“We are delighted to have captured three of Australian football’s brightest talents,” Western United assistant coach John Hutchinson said.
“Stama (Stamatelopoulos) is a very exciting forward who has already tasted A-League football, so we believe he will develop into a mainstay of our attacking third for many seasons to come.”
