Bruce Djite and Eugene Galekovic haven't dismissed speculation that Adelaide United had lined up non-playing roles for the legendary duo.

It’s understood Djite was asked if he was interested in the Reds director of football role after United’s original captain Aurelio Vidmar was in the job for about five months before quitting unexpectedly in February.

Galekovic was believed to have been headhunted for the vacant Reds goalkeeping coaching job after outgoing gloveman boss Frank Juric was interested in staying beyond coach Marco Kurz’s tenure but reportedly given a surprise farewell during the Reds awards night.

In an incredible coincidence Djite, 32, Galekovic, 37, and Marcelo Carrusca, 35, — members of the 2016 Premier’s Plate and grand final winning side — all announced retiring as professional players within 18 days of each other.

Djite is now a Fox Sports football pundit hinting that he is about to win a job in football in Sydney but wouldn’t elaborate on contact being made by Adelaide for the vacant director’s role.

“I feel like I’m still involved in the game through Fox Sports and I’ve looked into another sporting organisation,’’ Djite said after playing his last game with Indonesian club PSM Makassar last year.

“I’m a planner, I didn’t just stop to do nothing, I’ve been speaking to these guys since last year in football.”

Galekovic announced he was putting his brilliant playing career to bed just days after winning Melbourne City’s player of the season award and copping a heartbreaking goal from Adelaide United’s Ben Halloran in extra time of the elimination final at Hindmarsh on May 5.

When asked whether the Reds had made an approach about whether he would be the new coach’s goalkeeping boss Galekovic remained tight-lipped.

“I’m hearing rumours there is (a vacancy) I’m not one to ask for a job,” Galekovic said.

“I’m happy to have a break and see what pops up and that’s about it.”

Galekovic has also been approached by City in a role where he spent two seasons.

“I don’t know yet I just announced my retirement,’’ Galekovic said.

“I didn't announce it because something has popped up.

“I have been thinking about retirement for a long time I didn’t want to announce it during the season to a degree, the team is the most important thing to think of.

“I want to go on holiday and rest the body and whatever happens, happens.

“Melbourne City has suggested a job in the academies and we’ll see what happens.

“I’m happy in Melbourne right now.”

With Galekovic and Djite seemingly in the Reds sights Gertjan Verbeek is certain to be announced as the new coach of Adelaide.

A former FC Twente coach and Dutch journalist Johan Derksen says Verbeek is completely ready for the Australian adventure.

"Gertjan feels good and is looking forward to Australia," said Derksen on Dutch TV show Veronica Inside.

"If he gets out of it financially, then he will do that.

“Gertjan is always quite straight with the negotiations and he always insists, if he is fired, that he will receive a penalty clause.

“He has now been fired about seven times.

“He has always bought a house out of being fired, so he now has a 'moving property portfolio' that borders on that of Prince Bernhard's junior.” (the second son of Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and Pieter van Vollenhoven)

"Yes, but I can also imagine that Dutch clubs are a bit wary of him.

"He has a somewhat stubborn image. If you are adventurous, then of course Australia is a beautiful country to go to."

Adelaide confirmed the departures of Papa Babacar Diawara, Scott Galloway and Jordy Thomassen on Wednesday.
