Unai Emery is hot on the tail of his former employee.

Banega’s agent is understood to be in London negotiating terms of an £18million move from Sevilla when the transfer window opens next month.

And judging by his displays for the La Liga club this season it is easy to see whey Emery wants to link up again with a man he has worked with twice in his career.

When it comes to scoring goals, his three for this season from 16 appearances is better than any record of Arsenal stars Lucas Torreira, Granit Zhaka, Matteo Guendouzi and Aaron Ramsey.

He has also created 32 chances for his teammates - an average of two per game - which is significantly better than the numbers of the players Emery currently has to choose from.

Attacking wise, the only category he is bettered by an Arsenal player this season is on assists - where Ramsey’s six is more than his two.

But when it comes to being a midfielder, players need to be as good defensively as they are going forward - and the 30-year-old trumps his rivals on that front too.

Uruguayan star Torreira has made a huge impact at the Emirates since his arrival in the summer, but he has made four fewer tackles in three games more than Banega.

Torreira has made 26 interceptions to Banega’s 17, but all round the Argentine is better than his four Arsenal rivals.
